X Pro 1 Shutter Delay

My guess is that the times it shoots, you are shooting closer to wide open, and the times that it waits, you are shooting with the lens stopped down smaller than 5.6, say. I don't fully understand the reason, and would be curious if this is a correct assumption on my part. I typically shoot AP, but with fixed ISO, and I've noticed the above correlation.
