i'm not paying to get it fixed so are there any diy suggestions?

Yes, contact cleaning spray. If you don't have that try alcohol but contact cleaning spray is safer. I read about someone opening his nx100, quick search gave this:

Edit: You may not need to open the camera, I'd try without opening it first. spray on the buttons and press a few times to let the contact cleaner get it. It might not work if the contact surface is hidden behind a protective layer. In that case opening it up would be an interesting project
Oh, and snake_b didn't answer your question but gave the suggestion to go for another system, how typical...
