D800 and Aviation photography

I am seriously considering an upgrade to the new D800, but a few reviews have got me a bit spooked! As you can tell from the post title, I predominantly photograph aviation subjects, including Warbirds, which require a relatively slow shutter speed to blur the props. My worry is that many of the reviews include comments like 'Impeccable photographic technique required' and 'tripod almost essential', not to mention 'a challenge to use' and I am wondering if the D800 is more of a still life tool! Do any forum members have positive experiences in using this beasty for aviation photography and how pleased were you with the results?
