Hello again Bob-

As you are much younger than me I can safely ask if you have the camera set to AF.S or, Af.C because the green focus box is only visible in AF.S.

The box is used to pinpoint the exact position within the frame where you wish your focus to be. The box will turn green when focus is achieved.

An important point is, that the box can be sized (larger or smaller) and most users find it better to size small thereby improving accuracy of the focus point.
