I had a similar problem with the zoom lever of a Canon A610. I solved it spraying electrical contact cleaner inside the micro switch controlled by the lever (it needed to disassemble the lever part).

Has anyone on the forum take their F70 apart or perhaps the zoom rocker can be removed on its own?

Taking the F70 apart should only be done as a last resort unless you've done this sort of thing before (successfully). If the zoom rocker just needs lubrication, a quick spray of contact cleaner and lubricant will do the job. I've done this before with an S100fs's binding power switch, using CAIG's DeoxIT, specifically this mini-spray twin pack, but it's available in many forms, and I used to use a much larger single spray can of contact cleaner and lubricant that was sold under Radio Shack's own label. I don't know who actually manufactured the large can for RS. The DeoxIT products have good reputations going back decades when they were recommended for use with computers. Description below from a Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary.
