Decreasing exposure in Premiere/After Effects?

How would this be done? There are many tools for adjusting specific parameters (Shadows/Highlight tool, Brightness, Levels, etc.), though there doesn't seem to be one for simply adjusting exposure as a whole.
Is it just a matter of going in there and decreasing shadows, highlights, and midtones individually?
