Yes, I think the greater DoF from the shorter tube is giving me more consistent results, although I am losing a bit of magnification, but I can live with that. And of course the Kenko tubes were also relatively inexpensive, like the 50 1.8.

I want to really explore the possibilities with tubes before I even consider parting with large amounts of cash for a dedicated macro lens. I'm probably more concerned with improving my lighting than I am about lenses for now.
