Aside from the technical capability made possible by the D800/1.4g lens combos, it's not that dramatic or interesting , IMO.

The background is blurred so much that your portrait subjects could've been in downtown L.A. dressed in traditional costumes, and it wouldn't have made much difference.

I just don't think these extreme portraits go well with the "travel" concept, there is absolutely no story behind your subjects, their "life story". It's just an extreme close up portrait of their upper body and face.

If it was a dedicated portrait session, yeah that's different, but for travel photography I don't think it works well. It's similar to the latest entry in Steve huff's site, this guy traveled Europe with the M9 and 50mm, and all he did was take extreme close up face shots of the local people.

But like I said, this is just my opinion.
