Ah, glad to hear from you, I was sure someone here would have had the same experience. I decided to send it off to Canon (Jersey) yesterday, so we'll see how it goes. I should have sent it to Canon first... my bad.
I was also wondering if the 1D's might be sturdy enough to take a drop like that... guess not

Send it to Canon, for sure. I had a 1DMKIIN, 600L, and 1.4ext get dumped. All connections between got the same damage as yours. Cost $400 with the $100 coupon that came with it. That was several years ago and it is still flawless. I'm in Texas so it went to Jersey. I trust them.
