I have to agree ... DRO seems to make sure that the camera properly exposes to the right in contrasty situations ... then you can pull up the shadow details as needed. (Of course, this is still no substitute for carefully exposing to the right onesself.)

Of course the lens flare (this camera's biggest design compromise weakness IMO ... but something has to give) will also limit dynamic range rather significantly.
