Contrarian opinion on the lens cap fn the DP2M...

I have now inadvertently knocked the lens cap off
the DP2M
four times
, and once nearly lost it. It
seems that a fellow DP2M owner in the forum was
already unfortunate enough to have lost it.
When you knock the part of the lens cap that needs
to be pressed to take it off, it sometimes happens to
be completely knocked off the camera.
It may be due to the style I use the strap of
the DP2M: I have put both strap ends on the right
mounting point, and either hang the camera around
my neck so that it hangs down asymmetrically, or
I loop the strap around my right writst, and then wrap
it once around my right palm, so that the camera grip
rests right in my fingers. In both cases the lens end
of the camera hangs down, which might lead to the
higher risk of knocking the cap off.
However, this has
never
happened during the 3
years of owning the DP1/DP1s/DP1X.
Additionally, the new lens adds 6.25mm of bulk to
the front of the lens, whereas the old lens cap only
added 2mm.
So overall, in my opinion the new lens cap is a step
back. This style of lens cap is OK for a big DSLR lens,
but I think the old style was better for the DP series.
end of gripe
Greetings,
Robert
