Europe with D700/24-70

I think it all comes down to your personal preference. You will not be able to photograph everything you will encounter, you need to decide what kind of pictures are you after. European cities tend to be tighter than the US ones that is why you get many WA recommendations.

Personally I did once a Barcelona trip with only 35mm lens on my D300 and a small compact and never felt limited. I did miss pictures, yes, but I was concentrating on what I can do and not on what I cannot and got enough interesting pictures.

From your collection I would take the 20mm, 50mm and perhaps the 105 VR and leave the rest home, but that is only me and my way of shooting. You would be perfectly fine with the 24-70 if that is your favourite.
