Advice on focusing points etc for airshows using the 1D mk1

Thanks for the advice the only point is number 4 which has left my alittle confussed!!

"On the D series camera's, the spot focusing point seems too tight. Change it to centre-weighted"

Do you mean leave the camera's metering to centre-weighted? i always shoot raw so can change the exposure.....i have seen on the custom functions C.fn-17 you can have 7 focus point or 13 point area focus could this be suitable,or just the middle single point activated what about when the aircraft are flying in formation? surely you would need more focus points activated to cover them?
