Is the PanLeica 25 f/1.4 equal to a 50 mm f/1.4 on Canon FF?
Aug 28, 2012

A few nights ago, I had a discussion with a colleague who shoots Canon 5D about my MFT PanLeica 25mm f/1.4 and his 50mm 1.4 on Canon 5D. I always thought MFT 25mm = 50mm on full frame 35mm cameras.

He insisted that my 25mm does not have the light gathering or depth of field at the same apertures as his 50mm f/1.4 even though both are f/1.4 lenses. How can that be?

Can anyone explain if both 25mm f/1.4 PanLeica are same in FOV, same depth of field at same apertures, and same light gathering as his 50 f1.4 Canon on FF? He said mine is more like a 50mm 2.8. Hugh?

Or is he right? He is an engineer, I am not.

And, can you give me a simple explaination if he's right or wrong. And why?

We bet a case of Dewars White Label on the outcome.

Thank you.
