I have the 35mm, and exept for some focus issues with my d7000, I think It's a very good lense. Small and light. Very sharp stepped down to 2.8, but very good wide open too.

Useful for general photgraphy. For portraits it's okay, but don't expect the best looking bokeh in every situation.

It's probably the lens I use the most, though I do find it a little to tight in many situations. I really wish Nikon would release a similar affordable wide aperture 24mm DX lens (35mm equivalent). The new 28mm is too similar to the 35mm, not wide enough. It's also pretty expensive and big on a DX camera.

I haven't tried nikons 50mm, but I used canon's similar lens and I found that one too tight, and it's not something I would walk around with if I had the choice.
