Lens hood for Olympus 12-50
Aug 28, 2012

I am disappointed that Olympus choose not to include a lens hood with their lenses and instead charge extortionate prices for them as "extras", but in the case of the 12-50 this is compounded by not actually having a hood that is optimised for the lens; instead they offer a hopelessly inefficient LH-55B rectangular hood made for a much wider lens (the 9-18) making it more decorative than functional when used on the 12-50.

I had a rummage in my collection of 52mm metal lens hoods and found a Nikon HN-2 designed for a 28mm lens but it produces no vignetting on the 12-50 at 12mm and is not only more effective for protection and shading I think it looks better too. YMMV

Mine is just a cheap Chinese HN-2 clone but even a brand new real Nikon HN-2 is a fraction of the price of the plastic excuse for a hood that Olympus want to sell me. Bizzarre.
