Is the Canon 17-55 worth the money?

I read the (numerous) reviews of both and bought the Sigma because I couldn't justify spending an extra $500 or more on nominal IQ that might or might not be perceptible.

You should also read this: http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/canon/lenses/wide-angle/sigma-17-50mm-f2.8-ex-dc-os-hsm-for-canon . I haven't noticed AF problems in low light, but I guess it depends on how "low" the light is.
