Is the Canon 17-55 worth the money?
Aug 26, 2012

I started this thread yesterday:

It was aimed to gather info about the switch to a particular lens the 24-105.

On this thread, I would like to entertain your inputs about other lenses like the:
Canon 17-55
Sigma 17-50 OS
Tamron 17-50 VC
Tamron 17-50 non-VC

BUT the Canon 17-55 is steeply priced, even pricier than the 24-105 at both Amazon and B&H. Almost the same weight.
Some basic arguments:
17-55 is wider on the wide end and is 2.8
24-105 is longer on the long end and is L

Though 17mm is very welcome, I can live with 24mm on the wide end, as I have lived (and still living) with my current 24-70 mkI which is my current and only general purpose lens.

Oh, I have a 550d body.
And what do I shoot? Anything----I want a general purpose lens

As I mentioned in the other thread, I am planning to replace my 24-70 mkI to something lighter:
Is the Canon 17-55 really worth the money?
Or the Sigma or any of the Tamrons will do?

Canon EOS 550D (EOS Rebel T2i / EOS Kiss X4)
