Hi Henry
You're probably not doing anything wrong.
There may, however, be a problem with your PC. Difficult to say from your description. How old is the PC?
What you can try is Googling for Canon USB drivers or re-installing the EOS software that came with the camera. The EOS Utility installed on the PC along with DPP should auutomatically (if set to auto) transfer RAW files to the PC as soon as the cable is plugged in.
You should also be able to browse the files using Windows Explorer and copy/paste them without difficulty so not sure what's preventing that. Problems of this sort are usually to do with drivers.
