OM-D Kit Lens - Which one?
Aug 26, 2012

Looking at purchasing from Amazon, but there's 2 lens options (as well as Body Only). From what I've read, the 12-50 is a newer lens that's weather proof. The other option is a 14-42 that looks to be an older lens.

So the question I have, is the 12-50 worth the extra $200 over the 14-42? Besides the weather proofing, are there other advantages? Faster focus, sharper picture?

I'll be using the camera for pretty much everything, but will be doing a lot of sports photography as well (my son plays a lot of different sports). I'll probably be picking up another lens for that (longer zoom) and using the kit lens for everything else. Would I be happy with the 14-42?

I'd love to hear your recommendations on the question above (buying body only and getting different lens is another option). I'd also love to get recommendations for the sports lens. I'm looking at the Panasonic 45-200mm Micro right now.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.
