Even though your service experience was "spotty", the local stores do invest in display inventory (not to mention real estate) which benefited you and helped you make your purchase decision.

One option is to see if they will meet you half way. Tell them you prefer to buy from them, you're willing to pay some premium for that but not the whole difference, and see what they say.

If you take that route, pick a reputable online dealer like B&H or Adorama for your reference price.
