That is probably the reason why Canon has a slightly better pq in some situations, specially landscape, grass, trees, small detail. HX20 is certainly better that Sony´s provious model HX9V was, but there´s still too much smudging sometimes. Canon´s quality is more consistent. Besides you can increase Canon´s sharpness in the settings if you prefer doing so.

For an average consumer, though, both cameras are very good for sure if you just remember what they are meant to use for.

I have the Canon and couldn´t be more satisfied.
