This would be the lens I would my most want Canon to upgrade. I currently have the 300mm f4 IS and like it a lot but the IS is not nearly as effective as new versions (like the truly amazing 70-200mm f4 IS). Also the lens is not quite as sharp at long distances (over 50 meters) as it is up close. The lens actually makes a decent macro lens especially with an extension tube. Hope they keep the min. focus distance and the handy sliding lens hood. The old lens works decently with a 1.4x converter but I’m sure the new version would be better.
A new version of the 300mm would also have weather sealing and might be a bit lighter which would be useful. The price should be around $ 2000-2300 USD (a bit less than the 70-200 f2.8 IS II).
