London Calling

My D7000 and I are off to London in a couple of weeks along with my 18-200 VRII; I'd like to also have a wide angle fast zoom to shoot low light and at night around the city. I'm assuming that would be the 14-24 2.8; but a colleague of mine tried to talk me into the 17.55 DX 2.8 b/c of the 14-24 "was worthless" on the D7000. This isn't correct is it ?
