Thanks for the feedback! My thoughts...

-hair light is a little strong/blotchy. Stronger closer to his neck.

Having it a little further away could even it out more... light falls off by the inverse square rule. When the light source is close, the fall off will be greater.

I had a hard time hiding the flash/ stand behind his head. And being horizontally oriented, the further back I placed it the harder it was to hide the edge of the flash. But I see the logic.

-I wish I had angled him away from the key light, so there is a little more drama/Rembrandt action.

Perhaps, but I feel 306 and 329 could have benefited from a little fill on the right (his left) side, just a fill/bounce card for his face.

I brought a reflector to fill that side, but frankly forgot about it, and at the time I was happy with what I was seeing.

Other things to think about. Why f/8? Did you need the background in perfect sharpness? If you opened up, it might have given you more power to work with. The SB-800 was not powerful enough at full power, going to f/5.6 would let you drop all the lights except the SB-800 by a stop, making the SB-800 appear brighter. I'm mostly saying this as a thinking exercise.

f8- as I was flying by the seat of my pants on the lighting, I figured I'd help myself out as much as possible with focus. Thus f8. I understand it would have helped with the lights!
