Ahem... if I turned on the light in the areas you have covered in darkness, what do you expect to see? As I said, there is nothing magical about noise behavior. You can cover it up in the mid tones and lighter. ALL your samples have that.

And if there were such magic wand, why doesn't Canon use it in Canon 5D III, a rather expensive camera to not be as good as your G1X (now don't go around telling people to dump their 5D for G1X).

Why should one turn on the light in that picture?
There are no problems with DR in it.
We are not trying to make an HDR from the single image, are we?

Scenery had less light than yours but looks times better.

Your picture did not have any dark areas BTW, and still suffers from loss of details.

If you do not like my ISO10000 sky noise, just "Magic Wand" it in Photoshop and run NeatImage Soft over it.

Also, I believe Canon 5D3 is defenitely superior to G1X,

and in right hands one can get better results by at least 1 stop while using same f-values and shutter.
But holding it in the hands steady will be, obviously, more difficult,
so I do not know if 1/8sec is possible for shots like mine.

Also possible explanation could be that I often use semi-automatic NightShot Handheld scenery mode, which is similar to Sony's MFNR, but is not present in Canon 5D Mark3.
