Grabbing pics from OMD video

I am in the process of taking video and stills of 3 Baseball and 1 soccer team. I'm trying to just shoot video and take selected frames for the stills. This is for the end of the season slideshow. I have had some luck so far grabbing frames with Quicktime Pro with the results being suitable for a slideshow. I am wondering if there is a "best" setting for video to get optimal "still" pics. Anyone tried to do this yet?
