How important is the optical quality of the filter itself? I wouldn't want to put something in front of the lens that would degrade the image quality, but nor am I up for adding another $100+ to the cost of the RX100.

I have seen Tiffen and Hoya filters for about $25 to $35 each, and then there's this set of five filters on Amazon for $13.95:

Not being sure how much I would actually use filters, I am tempted to start cheap, but if that would be like taking pictures through dime store glass, then it's money thrown out....
