RAW + JPG shooting mode, why does it exist?

This is not a rhetorical question, but why does RAW + JPG shooting mode, exist?

If you are shooting RAW presumably you have a RAW converter, so other than taking up SD card space, who would anyone use this option? Just shoot RAW and convert on your PC. Am I missing something?

If Sony allowed you to store the pictures using one of the Scene modes, lets say Landscape, along with the RAW then I can see a use, you have the camera modified JPG along with the unmodified RAW, but to just save a RAW and an unmanipulated JPG to me seems useless.
