Why 7700 vs 7200?

Why 7700 vs 7200?

I think Nikon wanted to get some separation between model numbers in the DSLR and compact ranges.

Having a P7000 and D7000 out at the same time might be confusing. The P7100 and D7100 when it comes out could also cause misunderstandings.

So, kick the compacts up to the high range and let the D7100 and it's followons have the low range.

Looks like a marketing decision to keep things straight.
