I have my doubts about the Nikon L810 as a competitor. I would expect (OK, hope) that Pentax would offer raw, better jpegs, better high-ISO performance in terms of noise and dynamic range, manual zoom control (rather than a powered zoom controlled by the switch on the side of the barrel), solid AF performance, etc.

Nikon P&S and bridge have routinely suffered from good specs and poor IQ. I don't recall an exception in the last 4-5 years or so. I still love my 4410 (?) from 11 years ago but the recent stuff is aimed squarely at those whose research consists of checking boxes on the spec sheet.

If the new Pentax bridge brings any of the Q technology and capabilities over, the L810 is no comparison at all. I'm thinking the right comparison will turn out to be the Panny FZ200.

I'd love to see WR included but I would expect to see that proudly displayed on the front of the body or lens. Maybe next year ....

It's competition is the $200 Nikon Coolpix L810 with 26X 4.0-104mm lens not the $700 XS1 with 26X 6.1-158.6mm lens for the larger sensor.
