That is true for many animals.....not so much for those farther up the intellect scale, primates in particular. They have emotions & enjoy such things as recreation.
They have emotions - example, howler monkeys. Not knowing any better mom @ times attempts to climb power lines only to be electrocuted. The baby will stay with mom until it starves....often crying & shaking mom.
I believe that many of them have a need for space, where they can run/cover distance. Surely it is not only humans who enjoy exercise. I live in Africa, with easy access to glorious, unpoluted open space easily reachable by sedan car. I would die if that was taken away from me... Is animals so different?
