I think it does alright. It has a strong showing at all focal lengths all the way to tele. However I see shifts in sharpness from top to bottom of the frame which to me means that its a case of slight decentering (or specifically some portions of glass is not up to par with the rest and as it gets rotated via zoom movement, the 'defective' of off-axis element rotates and depending on the rotation of the element either the top or bottom portion is in sharper focus.

This means that its possible to perhaps get a very good and well-centered copy that IMO on paper should be able to be quite sharp throughout the focal range which is not common for a rather wide zoom range.

On the otherhand I'm a tad dissapointed that yet again, lenses are still being produced with testable defects or wider tolerance of defects than I'd like. Sure even this decentered 18-135 STM shows how poor the Pentax 18-135 is in comparison, but I hate playing lens lottery...especially on a kit lens that isn't easy to swap or find better copies, etc.
