I've got a D300 and a D3200
Other than the ergonics of the D3200 vs the D300 it's a cracking camera, I used mine for the Olympic road race (cycling) and the AF continuous mode works very well, I had a handful of shots where it had chosen to favour faces opposed from the cyclists moves through the frame, but this was a very small number out. I've found no issues with the AF on static objects although the 11 point system is a limitation in comparison to the D300.
Noise wise it performs very very well.
I got mine as I wanted something smaller (I have the grip permanently attached to my D300) for walking around / holiday trip and the full manual movie mode was a big draw.
So it's main use will be general everyday day shooting, with the 35mm f/1.8 it's a lovely size to wonder around with, or as a backup when I'm out with my D300.
given the price of them, it's a very good stop-gap till a proper successor for the D300 comes out.
