Re: in relation to the DK-19 not my experience

It's the DK17M (magnifying eyepiece) which causes the loss of peripheral visibility. This is simply due to the magnification factor of that lens. I could still see the data readouts in the viewfinder, but I had to move my eye position. It's more of a problem for people who wear eyeglasses.

If the peripheral visibility issue was not a potential problem for some people, Nikon would have made the DK17M's magnification a standard feature of these cameras.

Hi Julian,

DK17 I'm not sure but when using the DK19 which I put on the D800 I can see everything. Besides this I'm a 4-eye (wearing glasses most of the time I photograph)

I'm able to see everything inside, and don't have to move around (I was afraid for that too due to experiences in the past with other cameras')

I had the magnifying eyepiece on my D2X. The magnification was nice, but there was a downside. It was harder to see things near the periphery of the viewfinder (exposure scale, AF dot, digital readouts, etc.). The field of view was narrowed. So to see content near the edges, I had to move my viewpoint around.

Is this still true with the D800?
