DSLR's have power supplies much larger than a point and shoot camera though, additionally, the DSLR can usually use less flash power due to shooting at higher ISO's than people like to keep compacts

If your trying to light a room with a tiny little flash at ISO200 its going to take a lot more power than shooting at ISO1600
