Copying photos from 5N to my PC using USB connection
Aug 18, 2012

Hi Everyone,

I have some photos that I'd really like to get off my 5N tonight. Unfortunately, my USB card (for Mem Stick) just broke. So... I've hooked the 5N up to my PC using a USB cord, and the LED on the 5N now says "USB Mode MTP".

But when I open the Mem Stick folder in Windows 7 Explorer, I find that there are different sub-folders for EVERY SINGLE DATE that I took a photo. AND, the inside each sub-folder are multiple unreadable files labeled "Local Disk".

What gives? When I could use my card reader I just got a single folder filled with JPG files. Now with the USB connection, I have this very messy and unworkable situation.

I have a feeling that someone will tell me I need to install some Sony software to use the USB connection. If so, what software? And is there a way to avoid Sony software?
