I had severe ulcerative colitis. I hope you get colonoscopies regularly. I've had problems since I was 30. Blood, pain, etc.... it's inherited. Most doctors can't tell it from Chron's disease. The whole field of IBD (irritable bowel disease) is not well understood. I've had 6 doctors over 34 years who were all unsure of a proper diagnosis. The last one told me that my gut was so inflamed I would probably croak if I didn't get the thing out.

My colon was so enlarged they had to remove it via open surgery - too big to get out by laproscope. In the nick of time, according to Doctor Sgambati. If you have ulcers you are at risk. I am fairly well informed - enough to know that you need to talk to your gastroenderologist about your ulcer. Not just an MD, a specialist. I had a lot of polyps. They were "pre-cancerous". Doc told me that I dodged a bullet.

Doc Sgambati is one of the few surgeons in this field that can do the surgery without need for a pouch. It takes longer to recover but the results are more satisfying. I live a normal life now as long as I am aware where the bathrooms are.

Don't let this one slide, Dave.
