SCUBA people, what camera gives best bang for the buck?

After seeing the under-water images taken by a diver using a point and shoot dive camera, I'm contemplating getting into it myself. To get excellent results, I assumed I'd have to get a housing for my full-frame camera, but her photos were remarkably crisp. So, which underwater camera provides the best results at the best price-point?
