Nice shots. I too have a D200 and 300 and I too prefer the images from the 200. Don't know what it is but somehow the 200's images are smoother and more film like, plus the fact it's base ISO is 100 which is great for using my 10 stop ND filter, when you want to keep the shutter open for as long as possible. The 200 may not come close to the abilities of the latest sensors when it comes to high ISO but it still far exceeds the capabilities of film. I do wonder if a D4 or D800 which I would love to have would really satisfy me more...
Whatever, I'll be using my 200 till it dies and then I'll be bereft.
Absolutely Nikon should continue the high end DX Dx00 line but please concentrate on high DR and ISO rather than high MP.
