canon 100mm f/2.8 on a cropped sensor
Aug 16, 2012

Hello, I wanted to know how the canon 100mm f/2.8 preforms on a cropped sensor.
my goals are mostly product and portrait photography.

currently I have a 50mm f/1.8 that I've been using along with Hoya's close-up filters to be able to take some macro product shots. but I keep wondering if I can improve these shots if I'll use the highly regarded 100mm f/2.8 lens instead... will I be able to get sharper images due to not having to take my shots behind a filter?

I know that the 50mm f/1.8 can produce some nice portraits but I keep hearing, reading and seeing great results with the 100mm.

question is if it actually worth the rough price tag or I'll find myself disappointed due to having a cropped sensor camera?
also how does the Tokina/Tamron/Sigma lenses compare to the canon 100mm f/2.8?

Thanks a lot for taking your time to view this question!
