I think Fuji X10 is a great camera for somebody who wants to have a powerful Auto mode.
As others have said - EXR auto is a great start. What I would add:
configure face detection on the Fn button (enabling/disabling): most of the time it does a great job, but sometimes you do not need it...
after you use the camera a bit, you can use the C1 and C2 modes for your favourite settings (either a P mode, but at DR400 and 6mp, or something else you discover it works for you)
In the end, the Fuji does a very good job as a full Auto / shoot anytime camera. The AF, especially when tracking, is not in DSLR territory, but it's good for a compact camera.
