Embarrassingly dumb question re: CF/SD memory in D800

Question for the experts--

I'm taking a trip soon and wants to increase the memory in the camera. I have a 32gb CF card and a 16gb SD card presently. When shooting RAW+Fine, with the CF card getting the RAW image and the SD getting the JPEG, it shows I have 400 pictures to take. When I shoot one image, it goes to 399, but the image is recorded to both cards.

I just received a new 32gb SD card today. When formatted and installed with the CF card, it STILL shows 400 images. Shouldn't it show more?

The card shows double the movie recording time as the previous SD card, and is equal to the CF in that respect.

The CF card alone who's 281 RAW images.

What am I missing here?
