advice on using rental lenses for D700

for a trip to Northern Calif, I am renting the 2.8 24-70 and the 2.8 70-200 VRII. on my D700 I have shot only the 28-300, so this will be new experiences for me.
any advice - hints or suggestions - on using these lenses is much appreciated.
