Elinchrom Quadra Lithium Ion Battery Issue
Aug 14, 2012

Elinchrom have just released a new lithium ion battery for the Quadra lighting system. The battery is £230 + another £65 for a new battery charger. The new battery is lighter and provides more flashes on a charge than the lead acid batteries that are also available.

Unfortunately it doesn't work with the first or second generation flash heads. In order to make it work Elinchrom are asking you to pay £40 per head to get them modified to be compatible.

The means the users who bought the Quadra system and made it a success are being asked to pay more in order to be able to use the new battery.

Do you think this is fair?

Do you think it would help Elinchrom keep its customers happy if they offered a promotional offer for 3 months or similar on the new battery, which gave users of the first and second generation heads a discount on the new battery IF they also had their heads modified to fix the compatibility issue at the same time?

I'm told they've also reduced the price of the lead acid batteries, but that makes me wonder if they're going to end production of the lead acid ones and they're just clearing the existing stock. This might fit in with them now selling Quadra kits with the lithium ion battery as standard.

Do you think they'll end production of the lead acid batteries?
