Friday is the day.....G5 in da house!
Apart from those two, does anybody think the 14-45 is worth the extra money? It will be about € 100,- more expensive I guess?
I have the 14-42 G, and it's a very excellent lens at wide angles when stopped down to F8. However, on the long end, 25 to 42mm, the corners are soft. no matter how much you stop down. Which is why I went back to using my Olympus 14-42 mm II as my basic lens.
I would definitely pay $300 for a zoom lens that was sharp, center to corner, from 14mm to 45mm, but I don't know if the Panasonic 14-45 is that lens because I don't own one. Both lenses have 12 elements in 9 groups with one aspherical element, so they seem pretty similar optically--not different enough to justify the much higher price for the 14-45.
With my last system (Canon DSLR) I payed twice that to get a good sharp zoom and it was worth every penny. However, there is no such lens for m43 yet. Well, not in the € 600,- category.
I'd avoid the "X" lens because although it's nice and small, I've heard all sorts of bad things about it's performance at the longer end.
I saw some tests with that lens. I'm staying away from that one. Some claim to be happy with it, but I guess they have different standards, or a rare fantastic lens.
