Are we talking precision? If YES on the D800 there is where the problem lies....

Precision as...the camera will vary it's point of focus each time you re-focus...variation...

If you were using the 50 1.4 YES...it's a dog for that. (micro USM)

Only ring-USM is valid for any testing, the same is valid for nikon only ring-SWM.
