Have you got any experience in shooting manual lenses? While I haven't used one that wide I'd think that setting the camera to AV mode and the lens to f/8 or f/11 and prefocus at 1.5m to 2m should be a good start.

You will get a huge depth of field even with quite large apertures with a lens that wide so focus should not be a problem. If you're shooting landscape or any other mostly static scene you should try using live view (and zoom in) to verify focus.
