I think whether you get paid or not isn't really relevant. It entirely depends on your type of shooting whether focal breathing is an issue or a non-issue.

There are exceptions, but for most of the users screaming murder about the focal breathing they "discovered", it's really a non-issue in real life. And for the few shots at close range where taking a small step forward isn't an option, a small crop will get you the same frame filling result.
