Panasonic cancels EPP 12-35/2.8 purchase as "item no longer available"

I bought the 12-35 from Panasonic Direct thru the EPP promotion in July at $974.99. Just received this email today:

Thank you for your PanasonicDirect purchase.

This is in regards to order number xxxxxx. Unfortunately, the item is no longer available and we are unable to fulfill your order, therefore it has been cancelled.

Item Number: H-HS12035 - NEW! LUMIX� G �X VARIO 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. Lens

This would seem totally bogus given availability of the lens thru Amazon and other retailers. Anyone get same notice from Panasonic? I'd heard horror stories about Panasonic Direct before, perhaps this is not unexpected behavior?

Like the lens at $975, not sure about $1300...
